Pupils at Erdington Academy are on a winning streak after scoring a new sports kit, thanks to a generous donation.

More than 30 basketball vests and football shirts have been donated to pupils in Years 7 to 10 at the Birmingham school, which is run by Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust.

The arrival of the kit, donated by Clive Mark Schoolwear Ltd, comes as Year 9 and 10 pupils are set to compete in the semi-finals of the Under 14 & Under 15 District Cup.

Mike Williams, of Clive Mark Schoolwear Ltd, said: “We are proud to be associated with Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust and we were more than happy to donate the kits to Erdington Academy.”

They will also don the kit when they compete in the U16 Boldmere St Michaels Invitational Cup, as well as when they play in Aston, Erdington, Saltley & Sutton Schools' Football Association’s fixtures. Meanwhile, the school’s Year 7 basketball team, dubbed the Brooklyn Nets, will also wear their new vests when they compete in the Junior NBA competition.

The kit was designed by staff and pupils and proudly bares Erdington Academy’s logo.

Stephen Humphreys, Head of Boys’ Physical Education, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation, which has given our football and basketball teams’ morale a big boost. We are so proud of all our pupils, who are passionate and dedicated to training and playing sports. It’s wonderful that their hard work is rewarded in this way and they can go out onto the pitch or basketball court with pride wearing their new kit.”

Liz Cross, Assistant Head Teacher, added: “At Erdington Academy we are fortunate to have wonderful sporting facilities, including two pitches of astro turf, table tennis, a sports hall, basketball courts and cricket nets. It’s essential pupils are taught the importance of having a healthy diet and incorporate physical activity into their daily lives and we ensure that all of our 800 pupils have access every day to our sports facilities.”
