Schools Minister praises Steiner school for pupil progress

Steiner Academy Hereford is one of the best in the country for pupil progress

The Minister of State for School Standards has praised Steiner Academy Hereford for being among the best in the country for pupil progress.  

Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP has written to principal Stephen Holland to congratulate the school on its Progress 8 results, which are among the highest in the UK. 

The results, which measure pupils’ progress between key stage 2 and key stage 4, place the academy in the top five per cent in the country. 

In his letter to principal Stephen Holland, the minister said: “I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils for the high levels of progress your pupils are making.”

Mr Gibb also congratulated the principal and his staff “for your hard work and professionalism”. 

He added: “We want to ensure every child progresses positively through their education, whatever their starting point, to broaden their future educational and employment opportunities.”

Mr Holland said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the school standards minister for the work we do here at Steiner Academy Hereford.

Progress 8 is one of two headline measures of school performance (along with Attainment 8) introduced by the DfE, which aims to capture the progress pupils make from the end of primary school to the end of secondary school, using KS2 SATs data as the baseline.

Steiner Academy Hereford opened in 2008 and was the first state funded Steiner school in the UK. In common with many European countries, it introduces formal learning later than in most mainstream schools in England.
