The power of food

Holroyd Howe explains how to make sure pupils have a positive relationship with food in school

Posted by Rianna Newman | August 23, 2017 | Catering & hospitality

To move away from the family home into boarding school is a big lifestyle change, with schools working hard to make the transition from home to school as smooth as possible for both the pupils and families. Food can be one of the most powerful and comforting elements when helping to settle children into their new surroundings.

Leading caterers Holroyd Howe have rolled-out a number of initiatives to connect with pupils through food, including theatre-style cooking demonstrations, sharing platters, street food and on-trend theme days. The relaxed and fun dining experiences ensure the pupils have an enjoyable and interesting dining experience during their school life, whilst learning about the importance of maintaining a good diet and empowering them to make healthy eating choices.

Amy Roberts, Director of Nutrition and Food Development at Holroyd Howe, commented, “It is important that we educate children as part of their boarding school journey on the importance of healthy eating, whilst adding fun and enjoyable dining experiences into their academic week. Holroyd Howe recognise the importance of educating pupils on food and nutrition. For boarders, we always provide a balance between fun and indulgent food, and healthy eating concepts.”

It is really important for all pupils to have a nutritious breakfast to fuel them for the day ahead, as it improves concentration and academic performance. By working with your catering team you can ensure that breakfast, supper and weekend services are not overlooked for your boarding community. By getting it right you can help your pupils to develop a positive relationship with food and also assist in enhancing your school’s reputation in a competitive market.
