This September, Ark has welcomed four new schools, bringing its total number of schools in the network to 34.

In Birmingham, Ark Boulton Academy has undergone renovation work and was named after Matthew Boulton, a prominent Birmingham manufacturer. The school opened on 14 September with six-form entry and is led by principal Herminder Channa.

Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy, led by Principal Wendy Baxter and also in Birmingham, is a five-form entry school which opened on 8 September. The school was named after Joseph Chamberlain who was Lord Mayor of Birmingham, MP for Birmingham, and the founder and first Chancellor of the University of Birmingham.

This now brings Ark’s number of academies in Birmingham to six, all of which have improved achievement since joining the network. One of the schools, Ark St Alban’s, has more than doubled its GCSE results and landed in the top one percent in the country for progress.

In London, Ark Byron Primary Academy in Acton is a new two-form primary school. Fiona Kaplan will be the first principal of Ark Byron, having previously been Assistant Headteacher and Early Years Leader at nearby Wendell Park Primary School. Ark Byron will be based at nearby Ark Priory until the building is ready in September 2016.

Ark Burlington Danes Primary Academy is a new two-form entry primary, creating a new all-through school at Burlington Danes in White City. The new school will be located beside the secondary academy, sharing some of its facilities, but will have its own separate building and outdoor space.
