Haywood Academy bit into a new challenge as they launched the Stoke Family Cook Book competition with Key Stage Three students on 28th February.

The High Lane based students will explore different food traditions from around the world, participate in food quizzes and consider the food traditions within their own families.

Principal Dilesh Parmar commented: “Students will work in collaboration with their parents or carers to produce their own recipe which is special to their family. They will submit this recipe along with photographs and descriptions for a chance to be published in a Stoke cook book.”

The launch was part of a bigger PSHE day filled with important and informative activities from talks on e-safety to drug awareness. The event brought students, teachers and parents together to learn key life skills and to raise awareness of important topics.

These topics included:

  • E-safety
  • Knife crime prevention
  • Sex education and discussing consent
  • Homelessness which was delivered by Arch
  • Drug awareness
  • Town and Country Planning delivered by Seddons

“It’s been a fantastic and important day which highlighted the various dangers that students should be looking out for and how to deal with a situation if they ever find themselves in one. Of course, it was important to make sure it was still a fun day and the launch of the Stoke cook book competition has everyone excited,” added Dilesh.
