Bett Asia 2019 was an extensive edition for all visitors, exhibitors, speakers, partners and stakeholders who gathered together in March in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The leading education technology event surpassed the 2018 event, with a 24% increase in attendance of over 2,250 attendees; 95 international speakers from 21 countries delivering groundbreaking sessions; and a huge increase in the number of government organisations participating, with over 57 government representatives.

During the two days, senior education leaders, educators and innovators shared intelligence on how to improve learning in the 21st century.

The award-winning conference programme was led by speakers from the Ministry of Education, Malaysia; Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific; Department for Education; LinkedIn Learning; and further diverse, international-leading industry companies and bodies.

Highlights from day one included inspiring keynote sessions from Dr Maszlee bin Malik, Minister of Education, who addressed the audience about the latest concerns within the APAC education technology ecosystem.

Minister Malik explored the importance of STEM education and how inclusivity is a key component for technology to expand access to underprivileged kids; looking into how education needs to be humanised, by building social and emotional learning; and finally, diving deep into the role of policy makers and educators, with a changing mindset on what technology is and what it can do.

Keynote sessions from Bett Asia’s sponsors, Microsoft and Lenovo, addressed visitors on topics surrounding digital transformation and how the industry must re-imagine the future of education.

Speakers - including Antony Salcito, Vice-President of Microsoft Worldwide Education - discussed how education industries need to embrace a way of bringing together people, data, and processes to build deeper relationships, and create more valuable experiences for today’s students – one that supports them to fully develop their talents.

Day two offered Bett Asia visitors further networking opportunities and valuable time among the leading educational technology providers on the exhibition floor. Access to leading content continued throughout the day, and highlights from a selection of inspirational talks included speakers from ACE EdVenture Group.

Anne Tham, founder and group CEO, explored the urgency of bringing 21st pedagogy to life - and what this really means - while reviewing how skills are measured, and the impact this will have on the future of the hiring process through HR and corporate training.

To enhance the 2019 edition, the globally-renowned Bett awards were held, recognising educational excellence and celebrating the initiatives propelling the industry forward. The four worthy recipients were:

 - Collaboration Award, awarded to Lakshmi Annapurna Chintaluri, independent education consultant, India

 - Game Changer Award, awarded to Dylan Lim, Executive at PADU, Malaysia

 - Innovation Award, awarded to Abhinav Mathur, founder of Million Sparks Foundation, India
