Ofsted grades Kensington Aldridge Academy 'Outstanding'

The academy was awarded an 'Outstanding' in all categories in its first Ofsted inspection

Kensington Aldridge Academy, a member of the Aldridge Education family of schools, has been graded ‘Outstanding’ in all categories by Ofsted in its first inspection. Inspectors concluded that: “Leaders, governors and staff have the highest ambitions for pupils. Together, they have created a school where pupils are happy, safe and making excellent progress. What the school has achieved and sustained is remarkable.”

Aldridge received funding agreement for the brand new school from the DfE in 2011, and in April 2013 appointed David Benson as the Academy’s Principal Designate. Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA) became Aldridge’s first school in London when it opened in September 2014 in Ladbroke Grove, an area where, prior to its opening, more than 50 per cent of students have had to travel outside of the borough for their secondary education.

Ofsted’s report is full of praise for the academy’s students and their development, describing them as: “confident, resilient and hard working” and “prepared very well for life in modern Britain”. It concluded that students “make outstanding progress in nearly all subjects” and “develop into mature and thoughtful young adults”.

Sir Rod Aldridge said: “I am immensely proud of the achievement of the academy, its students, staff, governing body and the Trust Team that supports our schools.”

“From the moment over eight years ago when we were first approached by the Department and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea about becoming sponsors I had every confidence that KAA could become a great school. I chaired all the meetings of the project management group personally and, having been a Governor from the outset, I have seen at first hand how the school has grown, supported its students and community through the relocation to our temporary site, and maintained a focus on delivering the highest standards of education to our students.”

“Strong partnerships are fundamental to the success of our schools,” continued Sir Rod. “The partnership with the Royal Borough has been key to the success of KAA, as has those established early on with Charterhouse and Godolphin & Latymer schools, RADA and LAMDA. I am sure that all these organisations share our pride in this recognition.”

Kensington Aldridge Academy Principal David Benson, added: “I’m delighted for students, parents and staff with this news, which comes at the end of a very tough year for the academy. It’s important for our community to know they have a school at their heart which, in Ofsted’s words, delivers not just outstanding but “exceptional” outcomes.”
