Positive routes for school leavers

School leavers advised to take apprenticeships after A level results day

Posted by Stephanie Broad | August 12, 2015 | Teaching

With many school leavers keen to find out their A-Level results on 13 August and their GCSE results on 20 August, national apprenticeship provider Positive Outcomes is preparing to take on more apprentices this month than ever before, thanks to central government’s strong focus on apprenticeships in the past year.

Kelly Ball, joint managing director at Positive Outcomes, said: “More and more people are starting to see an apprenticeship as a viable option for getting experience and getting themselves on the career ladder.

“With GCSE and A level results day looming, we are keen to prioritise the 16-18 age group within our apprenticeships and training agenda. Our aim is to provide young adults with the specialist skills and knowledge required to perform effectively in any workplace.”

Positive Outcomes helped 19-year-old Cassandra Goulden gain an apprenticeship at Countrywide estate agency last May, after she finished her A levels.

She was keen to get her foot on the career ladder and is now working towards her Business Administration Intermediate qualification. She said: “I knew I wanted to do an apprenticeship after college as it was the ideal path for me to gain invaluable experience and put something extra on my CV, as well as getting paid to learn new skills and gain a qualification.

“Nowadays, it seems more important to get experience in a role and build your career rather than going into further education. I found you can’t always get a job with good grades but you can build yourself up through a career with an apprenticeship and that was what I wanted to do.

“I am currently completing my apprenticeship at an estate agency. It is brilliant and everything that I wanted in a job. To anyone receiving their A-Levels this week, I would definitely recommend that they consider an apprenticeship, as I have found it a fantastic way of gaining experience and kick starting my career.”

Kelly added: “We offer a wide and diverse range of apprenticeships to school and college leavers from estate agency to hospitality, and our dedicated team are on hand every step of the way to provide support and advice to our apprentices.

“Central government’s focus on training and apprenticeships means that the apprenticeship route is increasingly becoming more of an appealing option and with more businesses calling out for apprentices, we are hiring more training staff than ever before.”
