Weir brings 30 years experience in education to the role, alongside academic credentials including degrees from St Andrew’s and Harvard University.

Weir’s career has taken her around the globe and she has spent the past 13 years working in the US.  From 2005 to 2015, she was principal and executive director of New West Charter in Los Angeles having joined from the Seashore Learning Center in Texas where she was director and CEO. In 2009 she was awarded CCSA California Principal of the Year in recognition of her influence in transforming New West Charter into one of the most sought after in California. She will now bring her expertise to the Global Academy, taking up her new post in January 2016.

Ashley Tabor, Global’s founder and executive president, said: “Sharon is a truly inspirational leader with a career in education that spans more than three decades and two continents. Under her leadership, New West Charter became one of the most highly regarded institutions in California and Sharon is the perfect person to run the new Global Academy. I’m so pleased that she has agreed to join us and lead this very unique school.”

The Global Academy will be based in Hayes, North-West London. Students will be taught traditional key stage four and five courses, accompanied by practical diplomas in creative media production and technology.
