Putting a premium on education

This year's Pupil Premium Conference, returning in July, is set to focus on closing pupils' attainment gap

Posted by Julian Owen | April 29, 2018 | Events

The Social Mobility Commission’s 2017 ‘State of the Nation’ report revealed how, on average, disadvantaged pupils were two full years of learning behind their fellow learners. However, when the Sutton Trust Teacher Poll 2017 asked how pupil premium was spent to narrow such attainment gaps, 17% of teachers revealed they didn’t know, whilst 30% of headteachers disclosed the funds had been used to plug gaps in their school’s budget.

As such, it is now vital that teachers and school leaders are able to develop strategies which effectively utilise pupil premium funding to deliver targeted intervention programmes able to address the attainment gap and support improved outcomes for all pupils.

With this in mind, this year’s Pupil Premium Conference returns on the 5th of July in Central London. With Ofsted and the Education Policy Institute at the forefront of discussions, this will serve as an invaluable opportunity for all pupil premium leads and headteachers to learn how to develop successful pupil premium strategies and, consequently, improve teaching and learning outcomes, close the attainment gap and meet the growing needs of all disadvantaged pupils.

This year, we will be providing a wider platform to meet, network and engage with pupil premium leads and will go one step further in examining how schools are making effective use of the latest pupil premium funding to develop innovative intervention programmes to close the attainment gap.

"It is vital that teachers and school leaders are able to develop strategies which effectively utilise pupil premium funding to deliver targeted intervention programmes."

To provide delegates with bespoke best practice case studies, this conference will be split into two breakout streams for Primary schools and Secondary schools/ Colleges.
