In national recognition of its exceptional academic performance in 2016, Ravens Academy in Clacton-on-Sea has received an Educational Outcomes Award from SSAT (the schools, students and teachers network).

Educational Outcomes data analysis from SSAT shows that the academy has enabled children to make progress in reading, writing and maths which is above the national average at Key Stage 2, and is among the top 20% across all schools nationally. Progress scores in reading (+3.4) and maths (+4.5) were well above average and writing (+2.7) was above both national and local authority averages. At Ravens Academy 76% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths compared to the national average of 53%.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT, said: “It’s my great pleasure to commend Ravens Academy on their excellent 2016 performance. We know how hard teachers work to ensure the success of every child. SSAT’s Educational Outcomes award recognises the professionalism, commitment and hard work of the leaders, teachers and students at Ravens Academy.”

The team at Ravens Academy, part of Academy Transformation Trust, will receive their award during a celebration event with SSAT, and will share their experience in achieving exceptional results with other schools through the network to improve education for all children.

Since joining Academy Transformation Trust in September 2013, Ravens Academy has experienced a rapid increase in the number of pupils on its roll and has seen its Ofsted rating improve from ‘inadequate’ to ‘good’, with outstanding leadership, in addition to its improvement in pupil outcomes.  Principal Karen Hammond was also named ‘Essex Primary Headteacher of the Year’ at the Essex Teaching Awards 2016.

Karen Hammond, Principal at Ravens Academy, concluded : “I am so proud that the significant achievement made by the children and staff at Ravens Academy has been recognised by this award. Our outstanding results reflect the progress made at the academy so far and inspire future success as we continue to grow. We constantly strive for excellence and this award represents one of the ways in which help pupils at Ravens Academy reach their full potential and be the best they can be.”
