RHP wins planning approval for Saint Gabriel's College

R H Partnership has won unanimous planning approval for new 750-place secondary school building for St. Gabriel's College, London

Posted by Stephanie Broad | October 10, 2016 | Facilities & buildings

The new building will replace a series of outdated existing structures which no longer meet the needs of the school in the London Borough of Lambeth and will take the form of a 3-storey superblock. Under RHP’s plans there will be improved Creative Arts, Drama and Dance studios; a new three-court sports hall and designated sixth form facilities including new social and study spaces.

As the College will be located in temporary premises a short walk away during construction, RHP has worked closely with the College, the Diocese and Local Authority throughout the planning phase to balance the College’s delivery of education with site constraints and project requirements throughout the works.

The project is part of the Education Funding Agency’s Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP) which is rebuilding or refurbishing those school buildings in the very worst condition. Saint Gabriel’s marks the third school designed by RHP, in collaboration with Kier Construction, to deliver new facilities for schools on particularly constrained sites, with both Chestnut Grove Academy in Balham and Weald Rise Primary School in Harrow already on-site.

RHP has extensive experience in the Education sector and regularly works with schools and universities throughout the UK. The Practice was shortlisted for the BD Education Architect of the Year 2016. Some recently completed projects in the education sector have been for Hills Road and Long Road Sixth Form Colleges in Cambridge; Kimbolton School, Huntingdon; St Helen & St Katherine School, Abingdon; the University of Cambridge; the University of Sussex and Queen Mary University London (QMUL).

RHP have completed several other with Kier in London including the Orion Primary School with nursery and SEN facilities in Barnet; City Gateway vocational school in Canary Wharf; and Etz Chaim primary school and nursery in Barnet.
