The benefits of mobile apps in education

SPONSORED: Technology is revolutionising education, enabling people to enhance and further their education

Posted by Debbie Botham | June 04, 2019 | Technology

These days, technology is incorporated in just about every part of our life and helping us in a wide range of aspects. It is revolutionising education, enabling people to enhance and further their education all by the simple use of tech. With a simple download of an engaging app, you can boost your knowledge anywhere, anytime.

Apps can have significant benefits on education, regardless of the subject, age of user or education level. There are, for example, mobile apps created for young children that focus on fun learning and reinforce topics to support them in school.

Needless to say, mobile apps have made an impact in the education space. Here are seven benefits of mobile apps in education:

1. Enhancing learning performance

Mobile apps give you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and learning performance. If a child is learning maths, for example, he or she can use a mobile app to easily access additional exercises that will boost their skills. This can be done from anywhere, so if you are standing in line with your child or sitting at a coffee shop, they can practice in productive downtime.

2. Efficiency

A mobile app creates an environment that is focused on learning and learning only. So when users are ready to focus in, they can open a learning app and be efficient with a lesson. Bonus if you turn off other notifications for your device!

3. Available at all times

Mobile apps make learning anywhere anytime possible. Traditional education environments require learners to be in-person with an instructor. With mobile apps, learners can focus on education when they are energised, ready and motivated by using mobile apps that are available at all times rather than a strict school or tutoring schedule.

4. Easy to track progress

Positive reinforcement and encouragement inspires everyone to continue on. Mobile apps make progress easy to track and gives users the confidence as they look back and see everything that they have already learned.

5. Option for privacy or community support

Learning something new can be a humbling process, and everyone learns best in their own way. Mobile apps offer the privacy to learn in an individual learning environment and some even have a community section where you can participate in discussion forms and learn along with other users.

6. Entertainment

Mobile apps can offer a degree of entertainment and make your learning environment fun! Language apps are very interactive and almost seem more like games. For example, if you are going to Sweden and want to learn some of the language, you can get a jumpstart on the basics by using apps like Babbel to learn some key words and phrases. Then while there, you can reference the app for additional support. Through gamification and a fun online environment, mobile apps create a learning experience that makes learning fun and enables users to learn when it doesn’t feel like learning (or at least not in the strict traditional way).

7. Encourages users to be tech savvy

Technology is inevitable in this modern age. By using mobile apps, users get more and more comfortable with technology. This will only benefit them as they use technology in other aspects of life and can even make them more competitive in the job market as they are comfortable with technology.

This kind of learning is just the beginning as technology in general is reshaping education. Before children start school, they can start learning by using online education platforms, they can supplement their learning as they are in school, and older students and adults can use technology to enhance what they are already learning or learn something new.

There will always be something new that we can learn, and these mobile apps make it easier for you to do so, rather than requiring you to learn in a traditional in-person school or education environment. Traditional education can be costly, and mobile apps that enable users to learn are cost- and time-efficient.
