Thistley Hough Academy is among the most outstanding institutions in the state and independent sector recognised in the shortlist for the 2018 Tes Schools Awards.

It's been revealed that Thistley Hough Academy has been shortlisted for the Community and Collaboration Award, in recognition of the work and support the academy carries out with parents, residents, other schools and local businesses including award-winning property maintenance company NOVUS and the University Hospital of North Midlands.

The academy prides itself on its strong links and open door approach to supporting community partnerships and projects, which have included the creation of an outdoor gym for use by both students and Penkhull residents, the creation of a school orchestra through the In Harmony development programme and the opening of a ‘Thistley Bank’ following support from NOVUS and a collaboration with The Hanley Economic Building Society.

Thistley Hough Academy Principal Holly Hartley, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious national award having tentatively entered for the first time this year. All of the partnerships we’ve formed across the local community have had a significant and tangible impact on providing our students with inspiring opportunities.”

“Our partners are very welcome and familiar faces and are committed to making a difference to the lives of the young people of our city, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued support of Thistley Hough Academy,” added Holly.

Tes editor Ann Mroz said: “It is wonderful to see such innovative ideas and best-practice emerging from our schools and teachers, despite the current squeeze on funding.

“We had a record year for entries and the standard was the best so far – all those shortlisted should be very proud: it’s an extraordinary achievement.”

The winners will be revealed at our gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London
