Dame Dana Ross-Wawrzynski, CEO of Bright Futures Educational Trust (BFET), was in Gorton today to participate in the turf-cutting ceremony for the new Rushbrook Primary Academy, which is due to be completed in spring 2016.

The new school is being built in the Gorton Educational Village which is already home to two BFET schools, Cedar Mount and Melland High School, and has been designed in a modern style with plenty of outdoor space to stimulate learning and play.

Carol Powell, Principal of Gorton Mount Primary Academy, who will be moving to the new school with existing staff and pupils, commented: “We are really excited about the opportunities that the new school will enable us to offer our students and our proximity to the other BFET schools will allow us to share facilities. I am confident that the new school will instill a real sense of pride not just with families who have children attending the school, but with the local community as a whole.”

Dame Dana Ross-Wawrzynski added: “We are continually striving to improve the learning environment in all our schools, whether that is through curriculum-based activity, teaching staff or facilities. It gives me great pleasure to mark the beginning of the construction of what will be truly a school of which to be proud.”

The investment in Rushbrook Primary Academy, estimated at around £5.5million, will be delivered under the Priority School Building Programme, which is centrally managed by the Education Funding Agency.
